Becoming a Student or Candidate

The CIA has two entry-level membership categories intended for individuals who are ready to pursue an ACIA or FCIA designation, or who would like to maintain a closer connection with the CIA and its member resources as they consider it.  

Both membership categories will open for registration on February 16, 2024, and will first come into effect on April 1, 2024. As members, Students and Candidates are bound by the CIA’s continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and Rules of Professional Conduct in addition to the CIA’s Code of Conduct and Ethics for Participants in the CIA Education System

Until March 31, 2024

As of April 1, 2024, to register for the CIA’s Mandatory Professionalism Module, the CIA’s Professionalism Workshop or any of the ACIA and FCIA modules and exams, you will first be required to obtain a Student or Candidate membership with the CIA.

Starting April 1, 2024

Which membership category is right for you?

Student

The Student membership category is open to those who are enrolled in a CIA-accredited university program and are working towards an ACIA designation through Pathway 1 of the CIA education system[[link]]

Student members do not pay annual dues but must annually reconfirm their current enrollment in a CIA-accredited university program during the membership renewal period.  

An orientation module is required in order to successfully obtain Student membership. 

Starting April 1, Student membership will be required for registration for any educational activity leading to ACIA.

Candidate

The Candidate membership category is open to those are working towards an ACIA or FCIA designation, and who are NOT enrolled in a CIA-accredited university program. Candidate members are working their way to an ACIA or FCIA designation through Pathway 2 or 3 of the CIA education system[[link]]

Candidate members pay annual dues[[link to dues schedule]] and must reconfirm their intention to renew their membership once annually during the membership renewal period.  

An orientation module is required in order to successfully obtain Student membership. 

Starting April 1, 2024, Candidate membership will be required prior to registration for any CIA educational activity leading to ACIA or FCIA.
